RELAY FOR LIFE 1st & 2nd MAY 2010

CJR spent the weekend participating in the Shire's Relay for Life at Sylvania Waters. Team members devoted many of the relay's 24 hours to walking or running around the track. Thankyou to everyone who supported our team - we raised over $1100 towards the fight against cancer. Go team CJR!

RESCUE BASE OPEN DAY 28.03.10

What a day! Rotaractors and Rotarians joined forces with Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter Crew Members to host the helicopter base's first official open day. Two thousand visitors walked through the gates to enjoy an action packed day with a line-up of rescue services and numerous demonstrations including those conducted by the NSW Police Dog Squad, the Police Rescue and Bomb Squad "bomb robot", as well as simulated helicopter winch rescues. CJR members distributed almost 400 rescue licences to the kids who attended the day and cooked up a storm serving over 800 sausage sandwiches! Congratulations to all involved for the success of the day.

EARTH HOUR 27.03.10

Members supported Earth Hour 2010 by switching off the lights and playing some favourite board games by candlelight. A big thanks to Kim for a night of "unspeakable" fun!

WORLD ROTARACT WEEK 08.03.10 - 14.03.10

To celebrate World Rotaract Week Belinda, Hayley and Melissa, with the help of CJ Rotarians Tracey and Steve, set up an awesome Rotaract Display at Sutherland Library. With plenty of photos and 'ROTARACT' in bright yellow letters it's sure to attract some attention. Head down to the library sometime this week to check it out.

NATIONAL PARK WALK WITH ROTARY YOUTH EXCHANGE 28.11.09

Eric, Melissa, Vanessa and Courtney joined with CJ Rotarians for the annual RYE bush walk and overnight camp out.  The weather was a toasty 32C and some great sights were had along the coast on the walk in.  After a rather gusty overnight stay at North Era, we walked up to the beach at Watamalla for BBQ lunch.

LIFESAVER RESCUE HELICOPTER BASE VISIT 27.09.09

Roxanne, Steve, Melissa, Vanessa, Tracey and Matt took off for La Peruse to visit the chopper base.  After a presentation & tour of the facility the "bat phone" rang and it was all systems go for the crew, darting off to a call.  Despite the windy conditions, we had a great morning and no doubt will be doing more with this organisation again!  Thanks Rita, Brett and Tony from WSLSRH for a great day.

Cheers to everyone and their friends/family who attended the charity tennis day at Illawarra Tennis Centre, Rockdale.  We had a super day with excellent weather, a fun round-robin draw and several interesting fluoro outfits.  Special thanks to the tennis centre proprietors for the donation of prizes and use of the bbq!

BOWLING SOCIAL 29.05.09

District Bowling Social Night. 95% member attendance by CJR, made this a great night to catch up (over a chicken parma & beverage) with other Rotaractors from the district. Various odd "birthday" messages, several gutter balls and lots of photos rounded out the two games of bowling.

INDOOR BEACH VOLLEYBALL 08.02.09

With the mercury tipping 30C+, what better way to spend a Sunday arvo than at the beach - indoors!  Over a dozen members and their friends/family took to the sand court for some "friendly" beach volley ball.  Thankfully the nets kept the ball in as we pounded our way through a few games, stopping momentarily for ice-block breaks!  With the sugar high from the drinks and ice-blocks, we turned our attention to the netball court for an impromptu game, complete with a few impromptu sprains...never the less, a fun day out topped off with pizza and a swim.  Thanks to Ally and Tracey.

"WHAT'S ON" in The Leader newspaper

Special mention to Roxy for our regular inclusion for club meetings and events in the newspaper "What's On" section.  Those within the papers distribution area can check meeting times or pass on the details to others. Well done Rox!

BACK TO BUSINESS MEETING 04.02.09

First general business meeting for the year saw four new faces to our club.  Welcome aboard Melissa, Anthony, Luke and Michael.  Preparations are underway for a range of community and international projects, as well as our headline trivia night.

OUTDOOR MEETING - "Feelin' fine in 09"

Members took to the outdoors and cooked up a BBQ for the first "unofficial" meeting for the calendar year.  The next six month's of community service and social activities we discussed over salad, snags, soda and salmon - not to mention the sweets and the sand?!  Meetings commence back at the SUS Club, Jan 28.

CJR 10TH BIRTHDAY COCKTAIL RECEPTION

Current members, past members, Rotarians, family and friends gathered on a sunny Sunday afternoon at the Como Hotel for our 10th bash.  It was a great way to catch old friends and chat to our local supporters about the plethora of activities CJR has done and will continue to do over the years.  President Tracey and Community Director Belinda presented the balance of the 2008 Trivia Night proceeds to the SSC Animal Shelter. They will use the funds to purchase weather blinds for the dog and cat runs, protecting them from the elements but still enabling them to see the outside world.  Congratulations Como's and special mention to Roxanne for getting some media attention in The Leader newspaper. (Article to be posted online soon)

DIGGER DELIVERIES 07.12.08

Members of the club and past Rotaractors joined forces with PDRR Lyndall on our community/international project "Digger Deliveries".  180 care packages containing something to read, Anzac biscuits, lollies, cards, coffee, xmas card and soups etc are to be sent to Aussie Troops stationed in Afghanistan serving in Operation Slipper.  This type of project works very sucessfully with American troops and their families and we hope this will lead to an on-going type of support for our women and men serving overseas.

WEEKEND AWAY 28.11.08

Members survived the rather wet weekend in the "haunted" Guest House in Nowra.  Despite the drizzle, we still managed to take a morning trip to the fashionable township of Berry, sampling the local produce of candy lollipops, doughnuts and the best steak meat pies ever!  Afternoon spent by the pool and an interesting evening of various games rounded out the stay.

JAMBEROO 30.11.08

Sunny, with scattered cloud, 24C!  Winding up the coast through the Jamberoo dairy farms we took to the slides at Jamberoo action park.  After multiple pile-up's and dodgy tobboggans, we made it down the mountain.  Screams-a-plenty on the Taipan and some interesting ways to jump off the rock made for an enjoyable day.
